The Center for Employment Training-Santa Maria (CET-SM) is a non-profit educational organization that has been serving Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties since April 1978.
CET-SM training is available to anyone over the age of 18 who wants to expand their education and learn a job-related skill. Consistent with its mission to serve the entire community, CET places no prerequisites for acceptance and seeks to place qualified applicants into training immediately.
While many CET-SM students have attained a high school diploma or GED, some have not. To aid these students, the Center offers, in cooperation with the local high school district, an on-campus facility in which these students can complete the units necessary to complete their high school education while attending classes at CET-SM.
For those students who dropped out of school before the 10th grade, and who require many units for high school graduation, CET-SM offers, in cooperation with Alan Hancock College, an on-campus instructor who works with those students in preparing to complete the GED.
In order to assist our local farmworker (Hispanic) community, CET-SM offers English as a Second Language classes (night) and encourages students in several courses of study to enroll in English as a Second Language classes at Alan Hancock College or other venues offered throughout the city.
