Medical Assistant

These classes prepare students for entry level positions in the allied health care field, such as medical assistant, optometric assistant, blood donor unit assistant, electrocardiograph technician, optician apprentice, podiatric assistant, chiropractic assistant, blood and plasma lab assistant, or medical records clerk. Student learn about medical ethics and responsibilities required in the allied health care field. They also become familiar with health care related communication and interpersonal skill, receptionist and clerical procedures, and therapeutic and laboratory procedures. Students study the body systems, safety precautions, handling medical emergencies, as well as pharmacology and giving medications. Finally, students participate in an externship in a hospital, clinic, or similar environment.
